Our family went to Dalat School, Malaysia to minister in 1975, the year that VietNam fell. We knew many of the missionaries mentioned in the book and worked with some of them later at the school. Some of our students were the children of the martyred missionaries. We had heard the story many times but never from the point of view of Ruth Wilting. The book was very well done--captivating, I'm sure, even to those who have never lived in Southeast Asia--it also provided brief insights into the U S involvement in the region and the relationship between the missionaries and U S military personnel. The one fault was that the Kindle version had none of the photographs--just the captions. Since the photos were a really integral part of the book (this was obvious by the captions), I found that a big disappointment. I wish there would be a distinct caveat on the Kindle books when they do not include photos.Product details

Mission Vietnam Under His Wings Stephen Lehmann 9781937190071 Books Reviews
Today, I finished this book. To all my NURSE friends, share the story of Ruth Wilting who was a missionary nurse working in a Leprosarium, in Vietnam 1954-68 when she was martyred. To my MENNONITE friends, you will learn of the love of her life who was captured and never found. To ANYONE who wants to see the people of Vietnam, and not from a news camera lens. To my FRIENDS, who like myself, have buried a lot of things about the Vietnam Era, spend a day remembering the pain, the Amish friends you may have made at Cox Medical Center during that time, the friends that were lost in the war, the marriages and families forever changed, the friends who were finding places to live for friend's spouses whose mates chose to go to the Federal Prison in Springfield. It was a time of rapid change, discontent, pain. To my FAMILY who really has never heard about that time in my life. This is a must read. This year will be 50 years since Dan Gerber, a MCC paxmen, was captiured. Are we willing to die for our faith?? I think that is a question none of us wants to answer. But this is an excellent read to share in someone else's journey, and in the process, may we be challenged to do more outside our comfort zone.
This book was about friends that I met in Vietnam that were brutally killed by the NVA. Never new about thier missionary mission before then. Ruth was devoted to her calling about giving her full life to others. Still haunts me today.
